John White Abbott 1763-1851 w/c cottage & trees 12 April 1831 11 x 18cms SOLD

Exeter artist. Trained as a surgeon, but turned to art under Francis Towne. Exhibited oils at the Royal Academy 1793-1822. Inherited money enabling him to go on sketching tours both home, & abroad (this is one such sketch). In many public collections including V&A., Exeter Museum, & the British Museum. Provenance-came from a sketch book along with four others, in a date sequence.
