Henry Andrews Luscombe w/c off Mountbatten, Plymouth Harbour 20 x 38 cms £535
Born in Plymouth in May 1820. His youth was spent working for Allen, Hanbury & Barry (chemists) at Plough Court, London but yearned to paint. Returned to Plymouth where he temporarily joined his father in his coal merchant business, but soon took up painting full-time depicting the shipping in the Sound, in both watercolour & oils. He exhibited 11 works at the Royal Academy 1845-65. Lived at Saltram Place, Plymouth. One oil is in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.
An excellent quality early victorian watercolour in beautiful condition, by an important very well-listed marine artist.
